Starflight

Title: Starflight
Author: Melissa Landers
Rating: Top shelf!

Summary: SPACE PIRATES!!! I think this book is best described as the movie Overboard gone teen sci-fy!!

This book was amazing and good for everybody!!! You really get to know and connect with the characters!! Starflight will take you through all of the emotions you have in your body!!! You will not want to put it down! The only bad part is that the next book doesn't come out until summer 2017.

Meeting Melissa
I got to meet Melissa and have her sign my copy of Starflight at a book signing, which was super cool!! She talked about how she took elements from Overboard to put in the story and also discussed how she started writing at a young age!

Everyone needs to go and pick up a copy now!!!!! Happy reading!!!!

This book will not have a discussion portion, because I do not want to ruin this AMAZING book for anyone who might be tempted to read my discussion without reading the book first.

Please leave comments with your thoughts on Starflight!! Happy commenting!!

The Great Gatsby

Title: The Great Gatsby
Author: F Scott Fitzgerald
Rating: Top Shelf

Summary: This book is an American Classic about achieving the American Dream in the roaring 20s (money, a fine job, and a young lady).

Yes, it is a classic. However, don't let the label scare you away from reading them!!

I enjoyed the writing style in the book and the length was just right! It had a humorous side to it too.

I got this Lithograph of the book at the Library of Congress in DC and had to share a photo of it!
Go and pick up a copy and let me know what you think in the comments!! Happy reading!!

Book Talk is Below. Do not read it if you haven't read the book!!

This is your last chance to turn back!!!!!!!!!

Book Talk
I read this book in school with no spoilers whatsoever and I had not seen the movie until after reading. I was so glad I did because if I would have found out that Gatsby died in the end I would have lost interest early on. I hated it that he died because Tom hinted that Gatsby killed Myrtle. It was truly a tragedy!!

My favorite character was the guy in the library!! I thought he was super funny because he was surprised the books were real!

Movie Time
The movie was pretty similar to the book which I appreciated. I also like how they updated it in a modern but still accurate way. The only thing I didn't care for was the part that they added about him being at the doctor or in the hospital. I didn't think it was necessary.

What did you think? Leave your thoughts and opinions in the comments! Happy reading!!!

The Queen of Bright and Shiny Things

Title: The Queen of Bright and Shiny Things
Author: Ann Aguirre
Rating: Top Shelf, because Ann Aguire is always a genius writer.

Summary: 2 people that consider them self "broken" have 2 very hard pasts. Then they end up going to the same school and confiding in each other. (*Que love story*).

This is a good freestanding book which is so nice, because there is no wait for a sequel. I personally read it in a day, so it is not unbearably long either.

-TIP-
Ann Aguire rocks as an author!!!! If you email her she will actually respond with answers to your questions rather than an automated response!!! Also you can email her publisher to get free bookplates and signed bookmarks!!!!! I think this is super cool and have bookmarks for all of her books.

I hope you consider picking up a copy of The Queen of Bright and Shiny Things!!
Happy Reading!!!

Book talk is down below. If you have not read it don't spoil it for yourself!!!

Please turn back and don't ruin a perfectly good book!!!

I hope by now everyone who has come to this point has actually read the book!!

Thoughts:
-My first thought I have is about her post it note encouragements. How cool is that!!!!!! I love that idea in schools!!!

-Thought number 2: Why couldn't she get in a car but she could get in a golf cart?! Please tell me someone else thinks this is odd too!! And even her whole stance on cars in general is odd. I get she is in Green World and she is the head of it next year, but it seemed like it was just a pain to do anything on a bike.

-Last thought: I do not care for Ryan at all!!! Why did he have to lie to everyone to protect himself!!! #coward!!!!!  And then like 8 pages later they were okay again and hanging out. No!    And then Cassie became BFFs with Sage to make Ryan mad? Funny, but it didn't add anything to the storyline.

Let me know what you thought of the book in the comments!! Happy commenting!!

5th Wave Trilogy and Signing

Book: 5th Wave, Infinate Sea, Last Star
Author: Rick Yancey
Rating: Top Shelf!!!!
Summary: If I write too much here I am going to blow it for everyone. So, this is all I have to say... survival of the fittest.

-Why Read?-
The books are written from many characters perspectives. I personally think it is super cool and helps the reader gain another layer of insight into the book.
Also, it is not just another YA alien book it's appealing to many people. My mom, nana, and I all love the series!! So, there is no excuse not to read it!!!!
There is maybe one excuse... There is some inappropriate language in it.

-Fun Times-
Tonight I went to a book talk and signing to meet Rick Yancey, the author of the series!! And he was so super cool!! #DreamComeTrue
He is currently book touring for the last book in the trilogy, "The Last Star".
I hope you go and pick up your copy right away!! Happy reading!!!

Book Talk is below
If you haven't read the whole series don't ruin it for yourself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is your last chance to turn back!!!!

If you are reading this I truly hope you have finished the whole series The 5th Wave, The Infinite Sea, and The Last Star!!!
-Feelings about the Characters-
Cassie- Cassie is one of my favorite characters in the books. However, throughout the series I feel like Cassie and Ringer change places in the level of importance in the story. I think it is unfortunate. Also, I understood why The Last Star had to end the way it did, but it did break my heart that she sacrificed herself to save Sammy.
At the signing Rick said he connected most to Cassie and he enjoyed writing her portions the most.

Evan- throughout the whole series I predicted he would be the character to die in the end. However, he defeated all of the odds. Even after most of the character were killed in the book he prevailed! I always shipped Evan and Cassie together.
At the signing Rick said that there was a tie for who was hardest to write between Evan and Ringer, because Evan was written in third person and had a lot of self discovery.

Ben Parish- I LOVE Ben Parish throughout all of the books. I love it how he steps up for Sammy (Nugget) and always comes back to protect him. He is loyal to his squad and a very good leader. I think his only flaw is that he likes Ringer.
Funny story- At the book signing Rick talked about how in the first copy Ben was just suppose to be part of Cassie's past and die right away and his editor told him "No". Then in Infinate Sea he tried to kill him again, but his editor said "No". I think we all need to thank his editor a lot, because Ben Parish lives and survives the whole thing!!!!!!!!!

Sammy (Nugget)- Cassie's younger brother makes me so sad throughout the whole series, because you see him loose his childhood. He is so young and through the books you see him grow very quickly into a trained killer. He killed Constance like it was no big deal! I think he really shows what the future generations would become if everything continued.

Ringer- I do not like Ringer. And I most defiantly don't like that she ended up with Ben!!! She loved Razor, but I feel like in the end she was just with Ben, because he was all there was.
At the signing Rick said that there was a tie for who was hardest to write between Evan and Ringer, because Ringer was not only hiding emotions from others, but also from herself.

-Final Thoughts-
Overall I loved the series and couldn't wait for the new book to come out!!! The books ended right, even though Cassie died. I understand why she sacrificed herself, so it is kind of okay. I am still heart broken about her death though!!!
I thought the last book was more twisty than the others due to the action packed plot. It was very unpredictable in a very good way. I'm sad to see the series come to an end. Hopefully there will be some novellas in the future though!!

-The Movie-
I was not a fan in the movie at all due to the big chunks they left out. Also I believe the casting could have been much better. However, when is the movie better than the book??? Never!!!

Thanks for reading!!!

Welcome to The Books Under My Bed!!

Hello readers!
If you are reading this I would like to say thank you very much for starting along with me on my first Book Blogging journey!!! I am very excited to get started, but first I think it would be a good idea to tell you my plans for this blog.

First thing is first, I would like to tell you about the layout that the posts will be in. Each post will start with my very special rating system. There are 4 levels in my system. The first is "off the shelf" which means I did not care for the book at all and that I'm not going to waste precious bookshelf space on it. The next level is "bottom shelf" meaning that it was just okay, but nothing special. Third is "middle shelf" which means it is a good book and could maybe be a potential reread in the future. And the last level is "top shelf" which is interpreted as a new favorite, amazing, total recommendation, rereadable book.
After I finish with my rankings and their reasonings I will then give a tiny summery of the book.

After the summary I will hit the enter button tons of times and that will be the after you've finished reading section. It will be very clear. It will be complete with my thoughts and opinions. I am sure I will discuss some spoilers as well. If you have any questions or different opinions please feel free to share them with me by commenting!!
Thank you everybody!
Happy reading!!!
